What’s unique about the Family Business Club?

The Family Business Club gives members of the Johnson community with a background or interest in family business the opportunity to connect. It is a space where we can share our experiences and lessons learned, while also forming a close, supportive network with the broader family business community at Cornell and beyond.

Why should a student from a family business consider Cornell for a degree?

Not only does Cornell have a phenomenal business program, but it also offers a wide variety of classes and extracurriculars across multiple disciplines, from operations research in the College of Engineering to viticulture & enology in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. This gives you access to a great number of fantastic resources and people to connect with and learn from.

Additionally, Cornell is home to the Smith Family Business Initiative, which is a tremendous resource. SFBI hosts multiple events throughout the year, including the Families in Business Conference, the Case Competition for Family Ownership, and the Sam Seltzer ’48 Mentors Forum.

What is special about Johnson and the Cornell business community?

One thing that truly stood out to me during my first year at Johnson is how supportive the entire community is. Whether it was my classmates I met in the atrium, faculty in my core classes, or the friendly staff in the student services office, everyone truly wants you to succeed. And this commitment extends beyond our time at Cornell. Many alumni I connected with during my first semester here were thrilled to schedule a call and take the time to talk with me. This also applies to the family business community as well. From my first visit to the Smith Family Business Initiative office to attend the 2022 Families in Business Conference, everyone I talked to was both excited and willing to offer help & advice.
